AI in Digital Marketing: MidJourney vs DALL-E | Mobio Group
Today, Dall-E and MidJourney are two of the most popular neural networks used to generate images based on user requests. Despite the fact that both technologies perform the same task, there are certain differences between them. First, Mobio Group will look at the features of the networks themselves.
Midjourney
1. Works through Discord-channel: to generate images you need to send your request in the chat-channel newbies. If using this neural network for free, other users will see your results.
2. Each new user gets 25 minutes of free GPU time, which in theory could be equal to 25 images.
If you generate images with more detail or HD format (for example, using –hd or –wallpaper commands), you will spend more time on generating images.
3. For each request, the AI draws four images, which can be improved or generated for additional variants based on them.
4. With special commands you can set the size of the generated images.
In addition to free trial minutes, Midjourney has three plans:
- Basic — for $10 a month you get 200 minutes of fast GPU time.
- Standard — $30 a month and you get 15 hours of fast GPU and unlimited relax GPU time.
- Corporate — for $600 per year you get 30 hours of fast GPU and unlimited relax GPU time. Also, this plan allows you to use the hidden mode, which does not allow others to view your images.
Fast GPU — the mode where your request is processed with the highest priority, that is, the system tries to provide you with the GPU as quickly as possible.
In relax GPU mode, the request is queued for processing as the GPUs become free. An image can be generated in a couple of minutes or several hours later.
When you sign up for any plan, you get the rights to use the images you generate.
DALL-E
1.The project works through the API. Each user has 50 credits for requests for the first month and 15 for each subsequent month. For $15 you can buy an additional package for 115 credits.
2. There is a built-in modifier option. This allows you to easily correct individual elements of the image.
3. Additional options can be generated for each image.
A significant disadvantage of DALL-E is that it is not possible to set the size of the images. The AI generates only 1:1 images.
The user has full rights to all the images he/she generates.
A Practical Comparison with Examples
To compare the two neural networks and investigate how applicable they are to routine agency tasks, we took three real-world tasks facing the Mobio Group team for testing. In this article, we’ll briefly compare the results and summarize the results, since we’ve covered the details of the testing in two previous articles.
The first task was to create a large figure of 5% in gentle pastel colors from the attributes of spring for an advertising banner.
Midjourney was unequivocally better at this task. True, the percent sign did not lend itself to any network.

The second challenge was to create recognizable meme images but without 100% copying them to avoid legal implications of use. For the test, we tried to get images of Dwayne Rock Johnson and the famous smiling cat meme.
Both networks did quite well, but DALL-E was much easier to get, thanks to its tool for generating similar versions of the original image.

The third task was to obtain a photorealistic image based on the following description: a tired 40+ woman sitting in the kitchen, drinking tea and eating cookies, gloomy tones.
We tried both generating from various text queries and generating from a base photo, but after many attempts we were unable to get an image with the scene we wanted.

Evaluation of Pesults and Conclusions Mobio Group
Midjourney
A great tool for a generation of AI artists. Beautiful and quality results. For our work will be suitable as an art generator and for creating graphic elements on a given theme.
Weaknesses:
- Working in discord and lack of API for easy integration into business tools makes it very difficult to use in the daily life of the agency.
- The engine is quite slow, even compared to DALL-E, but the price is five times lower “per try”.
DALL-E
Good tool for the designer. There are great tools for editing, replacing, finishing — very useful.
There’s an API for integration with Python business tools.
As a “masterpiece generator” relative to Midjourney, it’s average. Although maybe it needs to be studied better before drawing final conclusions. Maybe DALL-E needs a different way to build queries.
The two tools can work well together: Midjourney to generate art and DALL-E to edit it.
In any case, at this stage, AI can not replace the work of the designer, because his work is not only to draw images, and involves primarily thinking through the concept that can solve the problem. But they can be an excellent auxiliary tool and source of inspiration for creating viable and aesthetic design solutions, especially when starting with a “clean slate”.
